The 2010 Football World Cup is fast approaching and all 32 competing nations are training hard and hoping that South Africa brings them success. Italy who are the current world champions will be defending their title against the qualifying nations who include Algeria, England, North Korea, Serbia, Argentina, France, South Korea, Slovakia, Australia, Germany, Mexico, Slovenia, Brazil, Ghana, Netherlands, Cameroon, Greece, New Zealand, Spain, Chile, Honduras, Nigeria, Switzerland, Cote d'Ivoire, Paraguay, Uruguay, Denmark, Japan, Portugal, USA and the hosts South Africa.

The 19th FIFA World Cup will kick off on 11th June when South Africa play Mexico in the opening match at Johannesburg. The World Cup will be played at 13 different venues throughout the country with 4 stadiums being built and a further 6 being upgraded.

There are a lot of strong teams going into the competition with the current champions Italy hoping to defend their title against the four favourites: Spain, Brazil, Argentina and England. The two teams who make it through to the final will battle it out on 11th July at the newly redeveloped Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg; there in front of the world’s media and football elite the next FIFA World Cup Champions will be found.
